Each year the show honors a noted quilter from the area and this year’s honoree is Barbara Martinez of Wilson County. Barbara immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1964 with her husband, two daughters and her sewing machine. "My English was limited but by watching John Wayne movies and Sesame Street I learned fast. I worked for 38 years as a realtor and was inspired by the beautiful quilts in homes I visited. I dabbed in quilting for a number of years with the scraps left over from sewing clothing for my children. Most of what I learned about quilting came from library books and trial and error. Then I met a client that was a long term quilter and I joined a Quilting Guild. This helped my knowledge of quilting and I was hooked."

Barbara retired in 2009 and moved to a small farm in Tennessee to be with her daughter and grandchildren. She is an award winning quilter at many shows in this area.

The Granville Quilt Show will be a featured event of our Fall Celebration October 2nd from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Participants in the show may be assured that a strong security system will be observed for the safety of the quilts. Safety guidelines will be observed at the event with masks required inside all buildings in Granville and social distancing encouraged.

The Fall Celebration on October 2nd also features Jazz on the Cumberland, Ralph Maddux Motorcycle Show, and the Grand Opening of the Scarecrow Festival and Craftsmen Festival. There will be a variety of music during the day, along with children events, craft booths, great food and shopping. The admission to the festival is $5.00 for a town tour ticket and parking is $5.00 per car. Your admission to the festival will include tours of eight museums.
