TENNESSEE SPIRITS & CORNBREAD FESTIVAL BRINGS SOUTHERN FLAVOR TO HISTORIC GRANVILLE
What could be more Southern than Tennessee spirits and homemade cornbread? Both take center stage on Saturday, October 3, as Historic Granville celebrates the newly named Tennessee Spirits & Cornbread Festival, a featured part of Granville’s annual Fall Festival.
Formerly known as the Moonshine & Cornbread Festival, the event has a new name that better reflects the wide variety of spirits produced across the Volunteer State. Tennessee distilleries are known for much more than moonshine, producing everything from bourbon and whiskey to vodka, rum, gin and other handcrafted spirits.
Sponsored by the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, the Tennessee Spirits tasting event will be held from noon until 4 p.m. in the parking lot between Clover and Line streets, just off Highway 53. Fourteen Tennessee distilleries will offer samples, and bottles of their products will be available for purchase. Admission to the tasting area is $10 per person, and guests must be 21 or older to enter. IDs will be checked. A complete list of participating distilleries is available at www.granvilletn.com.
Cornbread, Competition & Country Cooking
The Cornbread Contest adds another helping of Southern tradition to the Fall Festival. Entries will be accepted from 8:30–9:30 a.m. at the entrance to Pioneer Village.
Adult and youth bakers can compete in traditional and non-traditional cornbread categories. Adult competitors may also enter hoe cakes and a special category featuring a dish prepared with cornmeal and Tennessee spirits. Entries must be presented in disposable containers and accompanied by the recipe.Contestants will compete for prizes and, of course, the all-important bragging rights of standing in the winner’s circle! Winners will be announced at approximately 10:30 a.m. at the Pruett Gazebo. Complete contest rules are available at www.granvilletn.com.
And the cornbread won’t go to waste! Contest entries, including the winning dishes, will be served along Cornbread Lane in Pioneer Village from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. as part of the Outdoor Country Lunch. For just $10 per person, guests can enjoy pinto beans, greens, apples, cornbread, assorted desserts and a drink.
