Historic Granville to Host Upper Cumberland Family History and Genealogy Festival on July 25

Individuals passionate about family history, genealogy buffs, and anyone interested in exploring their ancestry are welcome to join the Upper Cumberland Family History and Genealogy Festival on Saturday, July 25, in the historic river town of Granville. This event will unite genealogy specialists, researchers, historical organizations, archives, and family history exhibitors from Tennessee's Upper Cumberland region for a day focused on uncovering and preserving family heritage. The festival will include four captivating presentations aimed at both novice and seasoned genealogists.

Jeffrey Bockman, presenting "No Birth Certificate? No Problem"
David Reeves, presenting "Welcoming Presidents to Pioneers: The Raulston/McKinley Stand”
Anna Stephenson, presenting "Beginners and Pros Alike Meet at the Dead End"
Dr. Kent Dollar, Chair of TTU History Dept, presenting, “Civil War in Jackson County and the Upper Cumberland.”
In addition to the speakers, attendees will have the opportunity to explore exhibits from 21 organizations, including libraries, historical societies, county archives, and local genealogy groups. New exhibitors this year include the Putnam County Historical Society of Tennessee, the Cemetery Restoration and Preservation Society of Tennessee, and the Caney Fork Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Returning exhibitors include the Old Walton Road Chapter DAR, the Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society, and numerous regional family history organizations. Representatives from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be available throughout the festival to demonstrate new features and advanced search techniques available through the FamilySearch genealogy research website, one of the world's largest family history resources.
Visitors will have opportunities to connect with researchers representing numerous Upper Cumberland family lines and learn more about the region's rich heritage. The festival will also honor the Woodard family, with Mike Maggart and Carmelita Woodard Walker sharing family history materials, ancestral records, and stories that preserve an important chapter of local history.
Family researchers attending the festival will have opportunities to network with experienced genealogists, discover local records, explore research resources, and learn techniques that can help uncover new family connections. Whether tracing a family tree for the first time or breaking through long-standing research challenges, attendees will find valuable resources and expertise available throughout the day.
