Quilt Festival Returns to Historic Granville Fall Festival on October 3
The beauty, craftsmanship, and time-honored tradition of quilting will once again take center stage at the Fall Festival in Historic Granville on October 3, as the annual Quilt Festival showcases an outstanding collection of beautifully crafted quilts from talented quilters near and far.
Quilters are invited to enter their work in 35 categories, offering opportunities to showcase a wide variety of quilting styles and techniques. Categories range from antique quilts, 75 years or older, to hand-stitched and machine-stitched quilts, along with many other categories celebrating artistry, creativity, and skill of quilting.
The Quilt Festival is both a celebration and a competition, honoring the tradition of quilting while highlighting the talent of today's quilters. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire intricate patterns, beautiful fabrics, detailed stitching, and quilts that reflect generations of creativity and family tradition.
The festival will also recognize two special individuals whose contributions are part of the Quilt Festival’s continuing story. The 2026 Honoree is Lizabeth “Liz” Self Mullens of Cookeville. Mrs. Mullens learned to sew at age eight, beginning a lifelong passion for textiles, sewing, tailoring, and quilting. She earned a degree in Textile Science from the University of Tennessee and has shared her knowledge by teaching sewing, tailoring, and quilting. A dedicated preserver of quilting traditions, she especially enjoys collecting and sharing antique quilts and encourages quilters to sign and date their work. The 2026 Memorial Honoree is Geneva Gilliam Farris of Cookeville. A lifelong quilter, Mrs. Farris continued quilting well into her 80s. Her beautiful handwork lives on through quilts gifted to family members and friends. In her later years, she also made and donated lap quilts to nursing homes. We are honored to recognize her memory and her enduring love of quilting. Together, these honorees represent the creativity, generosity, and dedication that keep the tradition of quilting alive for future generations.
Quilts entered in the festival will be displayed, 8:30-3:30 on October 3rd, for public viewing in the United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church, two of Granville's historic landmarks. The beautiful displays provide visitors with an opportunity to appreciate the artistry of each quilt while experiencing the character and history of these historic buildings.
