Historic Granville Celebrates Artisans, Shopping and Tennessee Traditions Throughout October
Historic Granville invites visitors to experience a month filled with creativity, craftsmanship, food, shopping and Tennessee traditions during Artisans Month in Granville throughout October.
A highlight of the month is the Roaring River Cultural Alliance (RRCA) Art Show in the gallery of the Granville Artisans Workshop and Gallery. Artwork by talented Roaring River-area artists will be showcased throughout October, offering visitors an opportunity to experience a remarkable and diverse collection of creative works while enjoying the unique charm of Historic Granville. This special exhibition demonstrates that artistic ability knows no age limit. The show features artists ranging from youth and school students to artists as old as 91, including one artist who has celebrated her 100th birthday. Together, their work celebrates artistic talent, perseverance and the joy of creating at every stage of life.
On display at the RRCA Show is “The Old Country Barn” by Pamela Peterson. Inspired
by a photograph, this detailed work required approximately 3,900 stitches and five months of dedication to complete. The result is a remarkable textile masterpiece that demonstrates the patience, skill and creativity of its artist.
The RRCA Art Show will remain on display throughout October and may be viewed Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Historic Granville extends a special thank-you to Valerie Goetz for coordinating the Art Show and helping bring this outstanding collection of artwork to Granville.
Throughout October, the Granville Artisans will demonstrate their skills Wednesday through
Saturday as Granville celebrates Artisans Month. Visitors can watch artisans at work and learn
more about the traditional and contemporary crafts that continue to be part of Granville’s story.
Visitors can also discover unique shopping opportunities throughout Granville. The Artisan Gallery in Sutton General Store, Granville Gift Shop, Southern Shops of Granville, Sutton Store, Aunt Bee’s Farmhouse Bakery and Quilt Shop, The Lovely Find, and Granville Broom Works offer something for every shopper.
From handcrafted artwork and one-of-a-kind gifts to delicious food and baked goods, visitors can shop local, enjoy a friendly welcome and find treasures that are sure to prompt the question, “Where on earth did you find this?”
Whether you come to admire the artwork, support local artisans, enjoy a delicious meal or search for that perfect one-of-a-kind gift, October offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the creativity, history and hospitality of Historic Granville.
