The 11th Granville Cornbread & Moonshine Festival again offers the Cornbread Cook-Off in Granville’s Pioneer Village on Saturday, May 4th. The festival offers the following cornbread categories: traditional cornbread, non-traditional cornbread, Aunt Bee’s Hoe Cakes, and cornbread with TN spirits desserts. The competition is open to adults and youth ages 8-14. There will be three awards in each category and age division. Cash awards will be paid as follows: First Place $25.00, Second Place $15.00 and Third Place $10.00. Each contestant will receive a Cornbread & Moonshine Festival T Shirt and a bag of fresh ground cornmeal from Eller’s Grist Mill in the Pioneer Village. Entries will be accepted in Pioneer Village in Historic Granville between 8:30 and 9:30 am.
A country style lunch will be served in Pioneer Village in Cornbread Lane from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at a cost of $10.00 per person. Along with serving samples of the cornbread entries, visitors can look forward to pinto beans with ham, turnip greens, fried apples, assorted desserts and a beverage. The Eller Grist Mill will be grinding cornmeal and grits during the festival and open-air primitive cooking will be featured as well.
The festival will feature 16 distillers from the Tennessee Whiskey Trail Guild. Moonshine tasting will be open to visitors between 12:00 and 4:00 pm in a designated area. Guests must be age 21 years to enter the tasting area, and the cost is $10.00 to taste from all 16 distillers. On Friday evening, May 3rd from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wildwood Resort & Marina will host a “Spirit Filled Dinner”, a Tennessee Whiskey Trail Signature Event. There will be no shortage of entertainment for the festival. Elvis Tribute Artist, Wayne Euliss, will perform at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Other Elvis events include an Elvis Look-A-Like Contest and Trivia Contest at 2:00 pm. The festival will also feature special musical guests at Pruett Stage featuring Sweet N3 Band and Front Row Barber Shop Quartet in front of Daniel Barber Shop at 11:30, 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 and the Packard Family Band at Pioneer Village at 11:00 am, 12;00, 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
Resident and visiting artisans will be on hand in Pioneer Village to demonstrate their crafts of yesteryear, and visitors will have an opportunity to purchase unique items crafted by these experienced artisans. Other craft and food booths will be available during the festival.
As a part of the festival activities, the Pioneer Village will be the site of a Mayberry Outdoor Dinner Theater with the "Best of the Darlings" with a great performance featuring an adaptation of an Andy Griffith episode with and bluegrass music. This year's festival is being sponsored by Tennessee Corn Board and, in conjunction with that sponsorship, the Granville Museum has created a new Corn Crib Exhibit telling the story of corn in the Upper Cumberland.
