Why Granville Deserves More Than a Quick Visit

If we had a nickel for every time someone said, “We had no idea there was so much to see here!”—well, we’d probably invest it in a rocking chair for the front porch.

Here in Granville, Tennessee, we’ve mastered the art of slowing down, and we invite our visitors to do the same. Too often, folks drop by expecting a quick look around—a few shops, maybe a bite to eat—and end up wishing they had more time. They leave saying, “We’ll have to come back!” And while we love return visits, we’d love even more for you to stay long enough to experience everything the first time around.

So here’s our best tip: Come early. Stay a while. Soak it all in.

Granville is small in size, but mighty in what it offers. Behind the picket fence, the old creaking doors, and even the new structures, unique stories are waiting to be discovered. And trust us—it takes more than an hour or two to hear them all.

Start your Granville adventure around 10 AM—about the time the morning mist is lifting, and the town is just starting the day. Begin at the charming T.B. Sutton General Store, where the wooden floors whisper stories from generations past and every shelf is a tribute to simpler times. Grab a hot cup of coffee and let the nostalgia sink in as you browse this living piece of Tennessee history.

With your $7.00 Town Tour Ticket, you’ll unlock access to Granville’s treasured attractions—all within a stroll. Head next door to the Granville Museum, where thoughtfully curated rotating exhibits ensure there’s always something new to discover. Don’t miss the military room, a moving tribute to local heroes, and step upstairs into a recreated one-room schoolhouse, where you’ll feel like you’ve time-traveled to a chalk-dusted past.

Just next door, the Farm to Your Table Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into agricultural life. Snap a photo with the vintage Ezell Dairy Truck and explore the story of Purity Dairy—a name steeped in Tennessee tradition. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the egg and chicken exhibit, which explains how something as simple as an egg once held surprising economic power. And view antique farm tools as interesting as they are useful.

Time to Wander: Where Every Street Has a Story.

After being steeped in history and charm, it’s time to take a stroll through the heart of Granville—where surprises bloom and stories come to life around every corner. As you wander down our walkable streets, you’ll find flowers bursting with color, hand-painted murals that tell tales of the past, and shopfronts decked out in delightful seasonal themes—from vibrant spring florals to cheerful fall scarecrows and the enchantment of a Storybook Christmas. Granville’s streets don’t just guide your steps—they invite you to slow down, look closer, and rediscover the joy of small-town wonder.

Around 11AM: Clover Street Beckons

That’s your cue to head toward one of Granville’s most fascinating stretches—Clover Street, home to some of the town’s most unforgettable hidden treasures.

5,000 Pieces of Unexpected Art-Decanter Museum

First stop: the incredible Decanter Museum. What looks like a collection of liquor bottles is a dazzling display of artistry. With over 5,000 limited-edition decanters shaped like cars, animals, trains, landmarks, and even celebrities, this museum is known more for the works of art than for the containers that held alcohol. Don’t miss the Elvis collection—it’s a visual tribute to the life and legend of the King himself.

Nostalgia, Laughter & Southern Charm- Mayberry and I Love Lucy

Next door, enter through Southern Shops and step into the world of Mayberry and I Love Lucy. This museum is a heartfelt tribute to two of television’s most beloved shows. Whether you’re chuckling at Lucy’s antics or nodding at Andy’s wisdom, you’ll leave with a smile and maybe even a tear of nostalgia.

No Ice Cream, But Plenty of Flavor-Whistle Stop Saloon/Ice Cream Museum

Cross the street to the Whistle Stop Saloon & Ice Cream Museum. It’s not what it sounds like—there’s no ice cream being scooped or moonshine poured, but you will uncover quirky stories and slices of Americana from a simpler time.

Cruise Through the Past-Clemons Car Museum

Before you make your way back, take a short walk up the sidewalk to the Clemons Car Museum, where shiny chrome and tailfins take you back to the ‘50s and ‘60s. This one’s for the dreamers, the cruisers, and anyone who’s ever loved a classic car.

Small Stops, Big Stories

As you continue your stroll, don’t miss what’s tucked just to the right of the Granville Gift Shop. Here, history hides in plain sight. Step inside the Old Post Office, once a fully operational hub for town life. It’s more than a collection of mailboxes—it’s a quiet reminder of handwritten letters, friendly faces, and the days when news came with a stamp.

And beside it, the Barber Shop pays homage to a beloved local figure known as the singing barber. As folks around here say, “If you didn’t love the haircut, you might’ve stayed for the music.” It’s a place that wraps you in nostalgia, reminding us of the days when a trim came with a tune—and maybe a story or two.

From Bank Vault to Story Vault-Granville Gift Shop

Now step into Granville Gifts, which once housed the Granville Bank. Yes, you can actually walk inside the old vault—and when you do, you may be told the thrilling tale of a long-ago bank robbery that’s still whispered about in town. The building may be filled with gifts now, but the echoes of its past still linger behind those heavy steel doors.

Time for a Taste of Granville- TB Sutton General Store

Are you feeling hungry yet? Around midday, it’s the perfect time to slow down and savor the flavors of small-town comfort. Head over to the T.B. Sutton General Store, where lunch is served from 11-2 and it feels like eating at Grandma’s table.

Here, you can enjoy a hearty meat-and-three special, a Southern classic with sides that might include mashed potatoes, fried okra, green beans or baked apples. Or go for the timeless combo of pinto beans, greens, and cornbread—a soulful meal that’s as warm as the hospitality. Prefer something lighter? The sandwich counter has you covered, too. Be sure to save room for a slice of pie or cobbler—because no Granville lunch is complete without something sweet.

A Little Art with Your Appetite- Artisans Gallery

While you're waiting for your food (or letting dessert settle), head upstairs to the Artisans Gallery. This charming space showcases one-of-a-kind, “Made in Granville” handmade items crafted by local artists and makers. It’s the perfect place to find a meaningful gift—or a special souvenir that tells its own story.

From home-cooked meals to handmade treasures, Sutton General Store is more than just a place to eat—it’s a place to experience the heart of Granville.

Crafted with Care on Rye Street -Granville Broom Works

Ready to see another slice of Granville’s handmade heritage? Take a walk down Rye Street to Granville Broom Works, where you’ll find Skip and Susan bringing time-honored traditions to life. Watch as they demonstrate the art of broom making—a skill that’s both practical and beautiful. You’ll also see how they weave colorful hot mats, turning simple materials into something both useful and decorative. It’s a hands-on reminder that craftsmanship is alive and well in this little town. These one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items aren’t just for show—you can purchase your own broom or hot mat, knowing it was made right here with care, skill, and a whole lot of heart.

Every visit to Broom Works is a chance to connect with real people preserving real traditions and it’s just another reason Granville feels like stepping into a storybook.

Step Into the Story at Sutton Homestead

One of the highlights of your Granville experience awaits at the Sutton Homestead. You’ll be assigned a specific time to tour this historic home—when that time comes, just take a seat on the inviting front porch. Your guide will greet you there and lead you inside for a journey through time. The stories told inside the Homestead evolve throughout the year, so every visit brings something new. Whether it's tales of family life in a rural farming town or new themed exhibits, there's always a fresh reason to return.

In 2025, fans of the hit series Yellowstone have a special treat—on display are actual dishes used on the show. Yes, you’ll even spot a cup just like the one Beth Dutton dramatically smashed! It’s just one more surprising twist in this tour that blends local heritage with pop culture.

From Homestead to Pioneer Village

But the journey doesn’t stop there. After the house tour, you’ll step into Pioneer Village, where your guide will lead you through a barn filled with antique tools and equipment. Explore an antique car museum with gleaming vintage autos, stroll through an 1820s log cabin, and peek inside the craft building, where handmade heritage is still alive.

A Village That Lives and Breathes History-Pioneer Village

Don’t forget to wander the garden paths and meet the artisans demonstrating traditional skills right on-site. From blacksmithing to woodworking, it’s a living history lesson you can see, hear, and feel. Granville doesn’t just tell history—it invites you to step inside and live it.

A Stitch in Time at Aunt Bee’s Farmhouse Quilt Shop and Bakery

Now it’s time to cozy up with one of Granville’s most charming stops—Aunt Bee’s Farmhouse Quilt Shop, Bakery & Textile Museum. Whether you're an experienced quilter or just love handmade treasures, this is a place that feels like home.

Inside, you’ll find everything a quilter’s heart could desire notions, patterns, fabric, and even quilting lessons from friendly faces who know their way around a needle and thread. The atmosphere is warm, the selection inspiring, and the temptation to start a new project is irresistible. Warning: if you’re a quilter, you’ll be back—and probably bring friends!

From Quilts to Gardens- The Lovely Find Garden Shop

Just a step or two down the street, you’ll come upon the Lovely Find Garden Shop—a place so picture-perfect it looks like it popped out of a storybook. From charming garden décor to blooming seasonal inspiration, it’s a delight to browse.

Tea Time with a Touch of Elegance- The Lovely Find Tearoom

And tucked inside this darling spot is the Lovely Find Tearoom. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to share with friends over scones, tea, and laughter. It’s wise to make a reservation—this cozy tearoom has a way of winning hearts and filling tables fast.

I hope you save time for a hand-dipped ice cream at Sutton Store before departing.

Shopping, Dining & Sweet Surprises

Take your time exploring local shops filled with handmade crafts, antiques, and gifts you won’t find anywhere else. And don’t rush your meal—whether it’s a southern lunch at Sutton Store or a slice of homemade pie, we believe food should be savored.

Each of these buildings holds its treasure trove of lovingly preserved stories. Granville’s charm is in its details, and these lovely little shops are the kinds of stops that turn a good day into a great one.

Don’t just stop by—let yourself settle in

Make a day of it. Better yet, plan an overnight stay at one of our lovely Bed and Breakfast locations. Whether you come for the history, the music, the shopping, or the peace and quiet—you’ll find there’s more than you expected, and exactly what you needed.
