Discover the Artisans of Pioneer Village in Historic Granville, Tennessee
Tucked away in the heart of historic Granville, Tennessee, Pioneer Village isn’t just a charming destination; it’s a living, breathing tribute to the traditional arts and crafts of yesteryear. Here, time slows down, stories are shared, and the sounds of looms clacking, wood being carved, brooms being tied, and laughter echoing through the village remind us of a simpler, more hands-on way of life. You may even spot a few folks sitting on a bench, passing the time by whittling.

As you walk the barn hallway of Pioneer Village, you’re surrounded by antique equipment and tools that once powered daily life, weathered wagon wheels, hand-forged implements, and farming tools worn smooth from use. Each item tells a quiet story of labor, resourcefulness, and survival. Follow the sidewalk beyond, and you’ll encounter more treasures: a mid-1800s log cabin offering a glimpse into early Tennessee home life, and just steps away, the Vintage Car Museum, filled with classic vehicles that once rolled down local country roads. Whether you're interested in pioneer ingenuity, automotive history, or timeless craftsmanship, there’s something here for everyone.
A Community of Artisans

At the heart of this experience is Granville’s vibrant community of artisans. These skilled individuals don’t just create—they demonstrate, teach, and inspire. Visitors are treated to live demonstrations of traditional crafts such as basket weaving, broom making, blacksmithing, quilting, and pottery. Each artisan brings history to life with their knowledge, skill, and storytelling.
But Pioneer Village is more than a place to observe; it’s a place to engage. Visitors of all ages can participate in hands-on classes, learning directly from the artists themselves. Whether it’s crafting a functional basket, tying a colorful broom, or weaving on a loom, these experiences offer a personal connection to heritage and creativity.

Beyond the Village: A Quilt Shop & Broom Works
Just steps beyond Pioneer Village, you’ll find Aunt Bee’s Farmhouse Quilt Shop, Bakery, and Textile Museum. This is a must-visit for anyone interested in quilting or textile arts. Inside the museum, vintage quilts and textile pieces have been lovingly preserved, telling their own stories in stitches and patterns.

The quilt shop is a welcoming space filled with fabrics, patterns, notions, and specialty tools. But what truly sets it apart is its community. On most days, the hum of sewing machines blends with laughter and shared stories as local quilters gather to create. Classes are offered for all skill levels—from beginners to seasoned makers ready to master intricate artistic techniques. Whether you need guidance, encouragement, or just inspiration, the artisans here are always happy to share their expertise and creativity.

Continue your journey just a few steps down Line Street to the Granville Broom Works and Textile Shop, where a colorful world of broom straw awaits. This couple-run shop offers a fascinating look into Appalachian broom making and natural fiber weaving. You’ll be amazed by their deep knowledge, drawn from years of hands-on practice and research. Whether explaining the mechanics of a loom or the chemistry of straw dyeing, they offer insight with enthusiasm and clarity, earning them the affectionate nickname "our artisans Google."

In addition to daily demonstrations, they host scheduled broom making classes where you can craft your own broom under their expert guidance. Their reputation for quality and engagement extends far beyond Granville, as they are frequently invited to demonstrate at regional arts and crafts fairs.

The Granville Artisans Gallery
Once you've seen the process, don’t miss the Granville Artisans Gallery, located on the second floor of the historic TB Sutton General Store. This inviting space features a curated collection of handcrafted work by local artisans, everything from aprons and pottery to cutting boards, ink drawings, and woven pieces. Each item is a piece of Granville itself, infused with tradition, care, and creativity.
