Heritage Day: Reconnecting with Family

The 23rd Annual Granville Heritage Day will be held on May 29th in Historic Granville with the theme “Beyond Passengers- Women & Transportation”. This year's festival will focus on the “Contributions of Women” with special exhibits in Granville Museum, Sutton Historic Home and the Pioneer Village. The exhibits focus on women of the Granville Community, as well as women of Tennessee and our country.

The Garland & Louise Collier Family (Pictured) is a great example of how people with Granville roots return to their hometown for a special day to reconnect with family. Last year the Collier Family visited Granville on Heritage Day and donated their family wagon to the Granville Museum and Pioneer Village. The family has many great memories of traveling to Granville in their wagon, and Heritage Day helps their family to remember those special days.

The Opening Ceremony at Pruett Stage will honor the Pharris Farm of Granville as the 2021 Century Farm. Twin Lakes Telephone Cooperative Corporation will sponsor the Century Farm Award and Wilson Bank & Trust will sponsor the 2021 Gene Duke Friend of the Museum Award. The opening ceremony will also be the dedication of the Cordell Hull Carter 1950 B F Avery Tractor. His son, Royce Carter, recently donated this unique tractor to be part of the Farm to Your Table Museum.

The 2021 Granville Heritage Day will include the Annual Heritage Day Antique Car & Tractor Show, Uncle Jimmy Thompson Bluegrass Festival, Parade, Historic Boat Rides, Children's Rides and Entertainment, Craft Booths, Craftsmen in Pioneer Village, Museums, Great Food and much more.

The annual Memorial Service at Granville United Methodist Church will be held on the 29th at 11:00 AM. The service will honor the memory of individuals with Granville roots that have passed away since last year's Heritage Day. Family members are ask to come to the service and light a candle in memory of their loved one. A special service has been planned with music by Linda Moore and message by Pastor Steve Frye.

Granville United Methodist Church will host a Homecoming Celebration on May 30th. Worship services begin at 11:00 AM with lunch to follow. At 2:00 PM there will also be Decoration at Granville Cemetery. The Festival will have a $5.00 admission charge and $5.00 for parking will cover the cost of the annual festival.
