Cornbread & Moonshine in Granville

The 4th Annual Granville Cornbread & Moonshine Festival is scheduled for June 13th and is sponsored by the Tennessee Whiskey Trail.

The Moonshine Festival will have eight Tennessee Distillers participating, including Short Mountain Distillery, Old Smoky Distillery, Tennessee Legend, OId Forge Distillery, Old Glory Distillery, Old Tennessee Distillery, Post Modern Spirits and Chattanooga Distillery. The Moonshine Festival will be held from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. and admission for tasting is $5.00. Guests must be age 21 to enter the tasting area. The festival will feature the Cornbread Whiskey Band performing at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. Leon Jeans will be sharing Mayberry moonshine stories and Arno Hatcher will be sharing stories of moonshiners of the past.


The 4th annual Granville Cornbread Festival will accept entries from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on June 13th at the Pioneer Village. The categories are Traditional Cornbread, Non-traditional Cornbread, Cornbread/TN Spirits Dish, Aunt Bee’s Hoe Cakes and Hushpuppies. Please visit granvilletn.com for contest rules. Prizes are $25.00 for first place, $15.00 second place and $10.00 for third place in each category. All participants receive a bag of Eller’s Grist Mill cornmeal and a Cornbread & Moonshine Tee Shirt. T he event will feature Cornbread Lane open from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm featuring a country lunch of pinto beans & ham, turnip greens, fried apples, cobbler, beverage, and cornbread from contest entries. Cost of meal is $10.00

The Eller Grist Mill will be grinding cornmeal and grits which will be available for purchase. Hot water cornbread will be served and primitive cooking will be done in the village where crackling cornbread will be served. Craftsmen of yesteryear will be demonstrating their skills in Pioneer Village during this festival as well.

This festival will be in conjunction with the Grand Opening of Tennessee’s Mayberry Town and the Grand Opening of the new Mayberry—I Love Lucy Museum with special concerts by Keith Thibodeaux (Little Ricky of the I Love Lucy Show) and LeRoy Mack McNees of The Country Boys who performed on the Andy Griffith Show. In addition, The Victors Band will be performing two concerts during the day.

Special features of this event will be a Mayberry Cruise In from 9:30 am until 3 :00 pm. There is no entry fee for this event. Mayberry characters portrayed by volunteers will be available for photos. There is a $5.00 admission charge for the festival (under six free) and a $5.00 charge for parking.
