SATURDAY NIGHT - MAY 17, 2025
Featuring Alanbeth Duncan

Alanabeth is a semi-professional banjo player from rural North Carolina. Having heard bluegrass music her whole life, she began taking lessons from Hank Smith at age nine and fell in love with the Scruggs style sound. She is the co-founder of two musical groups, The Loblollies youth band sponsored by PineCone, Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, and the fiddle-banjo duo Parker Duncan. Both groups have been featured throughout North Carolina, performing at Merlefest, IBMA World of Bluegrass, CueGrass, the North Carolina Museum of History, and the North Carolina Governor’s Mansion for the inaugural Make Music Day proclamation. Alanabeth also enjoys country music, using her multi-instrumentalist qualities to learn several popular songs on the guitar. In addition to the instruction from Hank Smith, Alanabeth also studies classic bluegrass techniques from Kristin Scott Benson. One of her favorite moments was playing in the final summer concert of Bela Fleck’s Blue Ridge Banjo camp in 2024.
