Grand Opening of Mayberry - I Love Lucy Museum
Historic Granville, Tennessee’s Mayberry Town, held the Grand Opening of the new museum on June 13th, 2020. Richard & Linda Cox are pictured at right cutting the ribbon, along with Mayberry characters who perform regularly in Mayberry plays during the year and special guests for the day. A large crowd attended the event which was also the Grand Opening of our 2020 summer season.
Richard and Linda Cox recently donated a large collection of I Love Lucy items they had collected for over thirty years to make the museum possible. Others have donated extensive collections of Mayberry memorabilia to the museum as well. The colorful murals on the walls of the museum and the many items from The Andy Griffith Show and the I Love Lucy Show provide an authentic setting which sets the stage for the interesting items on display.
Randall Clemons, President of the Granville Museum, stated that "the Mayberry- I Love Lucy Museum is a great addition to Historic Granville and to Middle Tennessee". He further stated "the town has just been recognized as Tennessee’s Mayberry Town".
Other special guests for the day included Keith Thibodeaux, who played Little Ricky on the original I Love Lucy show, and several impersonators who entertained and provided stories and photo opportunities for our visitors.
The museum will be open Wed. thru Friday from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The museum is part of the town tour of Granville which includes Granville Museum, Historic Sutton Homestead, Pioneer Village, Farm to Your Table Museum, Post Office & Barber Shop Museum, two car museum and the Whistle Stop Saloon & Ice Cream Parlor Museum.
