"Storytelling in Granville" Workshop

Historic Granville has recently received a Creative Aging Grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission to be used to allow participants to develop and tell their local stories.

The consultant working with us will be Ian Kirkpatrick. Ian has impressive credentials, is a published author, an accomplished speaker, and has received various awards. He is presently working as Outreach Coordinator with The McKinney Center in Jonesborough, TN, Home of the International Storytelling Center.

The workshop in Granville will consist of an eight-session course in which participants will explore the traditional art of storytelling both as a form of entertainment and as a method of historical preservation. They will examine individual elements of what makes a story such as character, plot, and conflict, and use these elements to tell their own personal story. Participants will have the opportunity to perform their stories at the Granville Cornbread and Moonshine Festival on May 7.

Storytelling Workshops are scheduled for March 18, April 1, April 8, April 15, April 22, April 29, May 6 and will be conducted at 1:00 PM at the Granville United Methodist Church.

Performance times and locations at the Cornbread Moonshine Festival will be announced at a later date.
